Creative Critique: Evaluating and Developing TV Properties
Bill Schultz is a two-time Emmy-award winning animation producer (The Simpsons) with more than 20 years' experience in the entertainment industry. As one of the principals at Mike Young Productions (MYP), Schultz and his two partners, Mike and Liz Young, have shaped the company into one of the most prolific independent animation studios in Hollywood today. With a focus on the global market, the studio has launched a distribution company and is successfully distributing a number of its series to leading broadcasters around the world.
In addition to running the Company, Schultz also serves as executive producer on MYP's productions, including Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks, a 3D, CGI-animated series airing in the US on PBS KIDS National Program Service; Cartoon Network's He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, now in its second season; the soon to be launched ToddWorld for Discovery Kids; and last, but certainly not least!, Pet Alien, a 3D, CGI cartoon co-produced with Antefilms, TF1 and GMTV, which will debut worldwide in the fall of 2004.
MYP is an extraordinary, award-winning animation enterprise, totaling 16,000 square-feet of digital, state-of-the-art wired studio, and employing more than 70 animation professionals. The studio's other notable credits include Scholastic Entertainment's Emmy-nominated Clifford the Big Red Dog and its new spin-off, Clifford's Puppy Days, both on PBS KIDS, as well as Nickelodeon's Butt-Ugly Martians.
Before joining MYP, Schultz worked for Cartoon Network as a supervising producer on a number of the network's long running series.
Prior to this, Schultz ran Film Roman for nine years. As executive vice president, Schultz, along with founder Phil Roman, managed the growth of the studio from 20 to 350 employees and from $1 million in revenue to $50 million. He also served as animation producer on two signature Fox primetime series: the Emmy-award winning The Simpsons and the highly successful King of the Hill.
