Tom Lynch
CEO, Tom Lynch Company
Developing & Producing Live Action for Kids

In the beginning, there were Nickelodeon, Disney Channel-and Tom Lynch.

It was the early 1980s, an era when children's programming was considered the bottom of the television barrel. Yet three visionary pioneers saw the potential of this overlooked genre, and set about creating compelling programming for kids. Two of these pioneers were networks. The third was a twenty-something rock-n-roll TV producer and nervous father-to-be named Tom Lynch.

As he awaited the birth of his first child, Lynch was beginning to question his rock-n-roll lifestyle (remember Don Kirschner's Rock Concert and TBS' Night Tracks?). He decided to move into a new kind of television, creating programming that would engage kids' minds, imaginations and energy. In his first project, he combined the best of his music experience with his newfound enthusiasm for kids' interests. KIDS Incorporated, the first variety show for youngsters, was born-and so was Tom Lynch's successful new career.

Along the way, Tom Lynch has helped revolutionize kids' programming, not just bringing it into the mainstream, but making it the dynamic, highly competitive field it is today. Lynch has also consistently broken new ground, beginning with his landmark show, The Secret World of Alex Mack. The first show to reach the elusive (and now sought-after) "tween" market, Alex Mack was also the first tween series to feature a strong female role model as its lead character. It also was one of Nickelodeon's first breakthrough successes.

Lynch's roster of hits over the past 20-plus years includes three other Nickelodeon favorites: The Journey of Allen Strange; 100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd; and Caitlin's Way; Disney Channel's The Jersey; Fox Kids and ABC Family's Galidor: Defenders of the Outer Dimension; tNBC's Skate and Just Deal; and the Showtime movie, Red Sneakers, starring the late Gregory Hines, who made his directorial debut in the film.

Fast forward to 2004. Lynch has come full circle, returning to his music roots with the Nickelodeon hip-hop sitcom Romeo!, starring hip-hop artist Master P and his real-life son, Lil' Romeo. At the same time, his vision has assumed a global scale, as seen in his Discovery Kids on NBC hit, Scout's Safari, set and filmed on location in South Africa.

Now a multi-hyphenate and father of five, Lynch and the company that bears his name continue to create uniquely fresh, innovative shows that resonate with youth audiences around the world by "illuminating the magic of the human experience"- celebrating all the drama, the humor, the kookiness and the reality of human beings' lives.
