Philippe Jacot
Head of Cooproductions, EBU European Broadcasting Union
No Stone Unturned: Program Financing in Europe & the UK

Philippe Jacot was born in 1960. On completing his teaching degree he started his career as a teacher in a secondary school in Lausanne in French-speaking Switzerland. Alongside teaching, he wrote as a columnist for several newspapers, and produced and presented a weekly programme for a private radio station in Lausanne.

In 1986, he joined Télévision Suisse Romande (TSR) and became producer of educational programmes. He overhauled this sector of TSR and in 1989 launched the magazine programme Magellan, TSR’s first multimedia programme which was broadcast on television and radio and published in the press and, interactively, on videotext (a forerunner of the Internet).

From 1991 to 1996, in addition he took charge of the whole TSR videotext service.

In 1996, Philippe Jacot joined the EBU (European Broadcasting Union), working in the new Television Department as program coordinator.

In 1998, he became head of the Youth & Education Sector. Assisted by his team, he coordinates a large number of projects: well-known cartoon series such as Noah’s Island and The Adventures of Marco and Gina; annual exchanges of fiction and documentary programmes for young audiences; and educational co-production series such as Business & Economics, African Child and Science Bank.

From June to December 2001, pending the appointment of a new director in the EBU Television Department, Philippe Jacot took ad interim responsibility for the department.

From September 2002, he is currently Head of the Co-production Unit in the EBU Television Department. Since then, several co-production series have been developed under his responsibility, including Tom (animation), Pitt & Kantrop (animation), Joint Insert Bank for Schools (an on-line market for short educational clips), Quin, Emperor of Eternity (documentary).
