Ken Munekata is Deputy President of Sony Pictures Entertainment(Japan) Inc. and is responsible for Sony Pictures' activities in home entertainment, TV licensing, satellite cable channels (Animax and AXN), and new business development in Japan. Munekata's 23-year career includes a number of positions at both Sony Corp. and Sony Pictures. From 1998 to 2001, he was President of Sony Pictures Television (Japan) where he was responsible for the launch of Animax and AXN Japan. From 1990 to 1997 Munekata was based at Sony Pictures in Los Angeles, where he was a member of the Corporate Development team, responsible for the launch of satellite/cable channels such as Viva! (Germany) and Sony Entertainment Television (India), and investment in Channel [V] (Asia). Prior to joining SPE, Munekata held a number of corporate positions at Sony Corp. in Japan, where he was part of the team that worked on Sony's acquisition of Columbia Pictures Entertainment in 1989.
Munekata has an A.B. in International Relations from Brown University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.
