How many hours or slots do you program per year?
Thirteen/WNET New York is one of the key national producers for public television and the flagship public broadcaster in the NY area, reaching millions of viewers each week. Thirteen works with independent producers as both a presenting station and/or co-production partner. Thirteen broadcasts approx. 45 hours of children’s programming per week.
What percentage or number of hours are commissioned vs. acquired? (Ie. 60% commissions/ 40% acquisitions)
Varies. (Most children’s programs are distributed to public television stations via PBS.)
What is the average amount for acquisitions and/or license fee?
Program dependent.
What are you looking for right now?
We are looking for original or book-based properties that integrate educational content with engaging narrative stories. Of particular interest are series with an innovative visual style, relatable characters, and humor for preschool viewers and 6 to 10-year-olds. Content should go beyond pro-social messages
We’re also considering ideas for Web-based projects for ‘tweens and teens.
How do you prefer to be pitched?
We welcome written proposals that include a series premise, story ideas, and – if available – preliminary designs. After reviewing your material, we will contact you.
